How many times have we heard that expression? Several I guess and despite that we sometimes come across something so different, so unique that it takes our breath away. One such occasion occurred on my last trip to Zambia with Art Safari. We were on a late afternoon game drive, a super afternoon with lots of spectacular game and colourful bird sightings. As we bounced through the bush, up ahead were two small groups of Thornicroft Giraffe, stock still and alert. They were all fixated on a spot in the bush a few hundred metres ahead. We skirted close to them but their gaze never wandered, something up ahead was clearly of interest them. As we drove closer to the spot we could make out two prone shapes, just metres apart that we could scarcely take in. Two of Africas greatest predators, a leopard and a hyena were stretched out, completely relaxed in each others company and taking only a casual interest in our group as we approached. Their individual markings so different yet both so well camouflaged in this one setting. We sketched and photographed them together, such a unique sight probably never to be repeated. Close Encounter - ZambiaAs the light faded and the sun started to set we turned and made our way back through the bush to be greeted by yet another wonderful sight. Three of the giraffe had remained, watching us watching the Leopard and Hyena and were now silhouetted by the setting sun. Another wonderful unexpected bonus that we shared. At the End of The dayBoth of these images are now available from my online shop along with many more from Africa so that you can share these 2 wonderful experiences too.
Do let me know if you would like to hear more from my trips given we can't travel so far right now. Take care and stay safe. Lindsey
